Providing access to sport across the region

Developing as a Sports Coach

Anne Thompson  sports coach UK (scUK)

Coach Development Officer for the Humber Region

I am one of 45 Coach Development Officers (CDO's) employed by scUK throughout England. The CDO posts have been created as part of the governments attempt to improve coaching in England.

The overall purpose of my job is to help produce more quality coaches in any sport. I do this by encouraging coaches to develop their knowledge and skills. I offer one to one or group meetings. In these meetings I guide coaches through a process that gets them to look at where they want to end up as a coach, where they are now, and how they might get from where they are now to where they want to be.

I also assist clubs and other organisations to establish support systems around coaches. These support systems usually consist of mentors and a coach manager or coordinator. I offer training for mentors and managers.

The other main part of my job is to improve access to information, guidance, and training about quality coaching in general. I will either offer this myself or direct people to other appropriate resources. If you think I can help you or you want to know more, phone or e-mail.
