ERCAS Accreditation
There are a number of important issues for parents when choosing a sports club for their child to attend, such as:- Will my child be safe?
- Will the coaches be qualified?
- If my child is good, will they have the chance to become better?
There are a number of accreditation schemes for clubs to work towards, such as National Governing Body (NGB) Accreditation, Sport England`s Clubmark Scheme, and the Council`s own Club Accreditation Scheme (ERCAS)all of which are a quality standard for clubs
ERCAS is an accreditation scheme from the Sports Development Service which enables clubs to set and meet standards which will lead to better quality sports provision for young people in the East Riding. It`s aims are to recognise the quality of services that clubs offer and to improve the quality and safety of the club`s infrastructure.
National Governing Bodies of Sports (NGBs) also run their own schemes to ensure clubs reach a minimum operating standards and therefore the accreditation is tailored to suit each individual sport. A majority of governing bodies recognise the Sport England Clubmark accreditation and tailor their specific coaching needs to meet the set criteria.
Clubs who have achieved accreditation in line with ERCAS and/or Clubmark can demonstrate they have the following policies and procedures in place within their organisation:
- Qualified coaches
- Criminal Records Bureau CRB) Disclosure checked coaches and volunteers
- First Aid requirements
- Health and Safety procedures
- Child Protection policy and procedures
- Skill and development progression
