Hull Kwik Cricket Final

24 June 2009

Kwik Cricket 09A warm and cloud free day was predicted for the annual Hull primary school Kwik cricket competition to be run at Hymers College. All primary schools from around the City have competed against other locally until we reached the last 16 successful Schools.

By 10.00am the pitches were all prepared and ready for action, thanks to the hard work of the ground staff at Hymers College. All schools were given t-shirts that donned the national sponsor’s colours and logos.

The competition got under way and it was good to see some quality Cricket being played. St.Richards & Buckingham Schools got off to a flier winning all of their league games which promoted them straight to the semi-final. Bethune Primary & this years surprise package, Thannet were the other successful team.

Local schools St. Nicholas, Gillshill and Thoresby played some excellent cricket all in the spirit of the game. After the league competition was complete the draw came for the semi-final. Buckingham & Thoresby looked in great shape as did both St. Richards & Thannet. Both Buckingham & Thannet reached the final with Buckingham a regular finalist in recent years.

The final was game was ready to play with Thannet opting to bat first scoring a very respectable total that Buckingham would have to bat very well to win this one. The game didn’t disappoint and both sides competed like they did from the start.  Buckingham were struggling a little at first but soon got into their stride and the final 3 balls were blocked out to win the game for Buckingham….well done!!

So, Buckingham Primary school won the 2009 Hull Kwik Cricket competition. Both finalists will now represent the City at the regional final at Castelford CC, Leeds on the 30th June-good luck to you both!!!

I would like to congratulate all Schools on competing on the day and all staff that made the day what it was. I look forward to seeing you again at next year’s event.
