Overview of disability work in the Humber
Introduction
As a result of Sport England funding the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations (FDSO) has been able to employ 4 Disability Development Officers (DDO’s). Each DDO is hosted by one of the 4 County Sport Partnerships within the Region. The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) Strategy for 2007 – 2012 and Sport England’s Playground to Podium Initiative are inherent within the DDO’s work programmes. Nicola Massingham is the DDO for the Humber. Contact Nicola on nmassingham@goodwin-centre.org or 01482 387491
Humber Disability Development Group
The Humber Disability Development Group is made up of representatives from school sport partnerships, local authorities, NGB’s and other local disability sports representatives and has been set up to make recommendations to the Delivery Agents of Sport on disability issues. This group provides guidance, local expertise and support with regards to the development and delivery of the county work programmes.
Club Directory, Events and Taster Sessions
Utilising the local knowledge of the steering group representatives and their respective networks has enabled a directory of disability specific/inclusive sporting opportunities to be produced.
Coaches and Volunteering
Coaching and volunteering at the local sports club is not only a past time for a large number of people but an integral part of the sport club and event structure. These opportunities need to be open to all sections of the community including disabled people.
A range of disability sport and disability awareness courses have been organised across the Humber. For further details of these courses please click on the following link
