Minimum Standards for Deployment
It is recognised and supported that coaches need to have certain knowledge, skills, and experience in order to coach safely and effectively. Coaches should also be adequately trained that reflects and helps children, players and athletes at all stages of their development.
The knowledge and skills a coach needs to have/develop depends on:
- Their role (e.g.) coach/assistant coach
- Who they are working with (children, adults, disabled)
- At what level they are working at (e.g. participation/playing sport, to helping someone perform at an elite level)
- What environment they are working in (e.g. community setting or in a school)
Work is being done nationally on developing coach development pathways that identify and reflect Minimum Standards for Deployment for Deployment. The latter is being achieved with a staged approach, starting with an overview of the current picture in sport around Minimum Operating Standards, stage two a consultation, which will take place in the form of a on-line questionnaire, and will result in the generation of a report and recommendations for furthers stage. More information on this work will follow as it develops and be updated on Coaching Humber.
