Facilities

Information on facilities which are available to support your sport club and selecting the best location to hold your sports sessions.

It is important that as a club you are carrying out your activities in a safe environment that is accessible to all your participants. Facilities can range from your local village hall to a state of the art sports and leisure centre however it is vital that in selecting a venue you are meeting the needs of your club. Cost is an important factor to consider – how will you pay for hiring it out? Do you need to consider a membership fee to help cover costs? Is there any funding available to support this? In a highly populated area, facilities that host sporting activities can often be over subscribed. Contact your local leisure centre to establish their current available booking slots. Some concessions may be made for youth, disability or block bookings..

Hosting your club activities in a school facility can have many benefits in terms of generating greater participation from young people as they are familiar and comfortable in the surroundings. There may be facility hire discount available for your club e.g. in the East Riding through their Community use of Schools programme.  Click here for details

To ensure you are delivering your sessions in a safe environment it is essential that you carry out a risk assessment on your facility prior to each session commencing. runningsports have produced a top tips fact sheet that will support you in completing your risk assessment. A template risk assessment form is available for you to use.
