Workforce Development
Sport England and the Yorkshire & Humber CSPs are commissioning research to develop a clearer picture of the workforce development needs of the Sports sector in the region.
This work will be used to identify priorities for development that will help to create a world-class workforce that supports the Delivery System for Sport and contributes towards government targets namely, 1% p.a. increase in participation.
In Yorkshire, we aim to understand:
- the size of our region's workforce (paid/unpaid, part-time/full-time)
- their profile (e.g. age, gender and ethnicity)
- what they do (e.g. job titles or role)
- their skills gaps
- their training needs to fill these gaps
Using this information, the CSPs will develop sub-regional level Workforce Development Plans with their partners, which identify the training, development and educational needs of the local workforce, setting out over-arching objectives for the next three years, together with priorities and a clear Action Plan for year one.
These Plans - and the ways they can be implemented - will be developed in collaboration with the Community Sport Networks (CSNs) so that the priorities identified can link in with the work that the CSNs are doing to produce Investment Action Plans.
We need your help
The first stage of this work will begin shortly. It will involve a survey to gather the information on the region's workforce, as listed above. To make Yorkshire's survey results as comprehensive as possible, it is important that your organisation, group or club completes the survey if you are contacted by the research company.
The survey is expected to take 15-30 minutes to complete (depending on the size of your organisation/club, etc.), and will use a combination of telephone, post and email options to encourage as many organisations/groups as possible to take part using whichever option suits them best. We appreciate that this will take you time to do, but we hope you and your colleagues understand the value this work will have for our CSPs and CSNs.

We expect to work with our partners to grow this knowledge base over time; we will do our best to co-ordinate our plans for data collection from now on so that we do not duplicate this work or take up more of your time than is absolutely necessary.
