Who are SportsAid
SportsAid - There at the Start
SportsAid is the Charity for Sports People, helping the next generation of British athletes to succeed.
SportsAid Y&H is committed to helping future sporting champions within our local communities. By working with sports Governing Bodies to identify the right athletes at the right time in over 40 Olympic, non-Olympic and disability sports, the money we raise helps athletes to buy the high quality equipment, coaching, travel or physiotherapy they need to be the best. Financial support and recognition can really give an athlete the ability to take the next step in their sporting career - with your help SportsAid will continue to provide this.
SportsAid Facts
SportsAid has provided financial support to athletes for over 31 years.
At the 2004 Athens Olympics, Britain had 17 gold medallists. SportsAid had supported 15 of them.
If SportsAid was a country, it would have come 6th in the Medal Table at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
86% of athletes supported last year felt that SA funding was the key to their progression within their sport
. On average SportsAid recipients spend an approximate minimum of £5,000 per year on their chosen sport.
Every year SportsAid gives financial support to approximately 1,500 young sportsmen and women.
Last year over 210 athletes from Y&H were assisted giving out approximately £75,000
. Why is SportsAid unique?
SportsAid helps talented young sports people at an age when no-one else does. When they start out, more often than not their only sponsors are Mum and Dad. Any independent recognition and financial help that they get makes a huge difference. Lottery funding has helped British sport enormously in recent years, but it cannot fund every aspect of sport and money rarely trickles down to the 12-18 year-old age group. That’s why our work is so vital. If SportsAid doesn’t fund this generation, who will?
