Shaping Sport in the Humber
A Strategy for Sport and Active Recreation 2009 - 2012
“To enhance people’s lives in the Humber sub-region by widening access to improved opportunities in sport and active recreation”
Shaping Sport in the Humber is a three year strategy which sets out the strategic priorities for the Humber Sports Partnership. The HSP is a partnership of key agencies committed to providing strategic leadership and driving forwards the development of a delivery system for sport to ensure high quality opportunities to take part in Sport and Active Recreation across the Humber.
The purpose of Shaping Sport is to provide a strategic framework for the partnership; the strategy has identified seven key themes and the broad strategic objectives to be achieved. These will be used to develop detailed annual action plans, and to communicate the HSP priorities to the agencies outside of the Humber sub region.
In the last two years each of the local community sport networks, (North Lincolnshire, N.E Lincolnshire, the East Riding and Hull) has developed its own sport active recreation strategy; this means that we have a very clear picture what is required and we have developed a strategic framework which reflect the priorities of local partners as well as the national priorities for sport and active recreation.
During the development of Shaping Sport we have been able to reflect on the progress made by the partnership and the significant achievements of the last three year and these are set out in the next section. We have also identified the work still to be done and the issues still to be tackled and considered our approach to this against the background of the changing priorities for sport and increasing importance of NGB’s in the delivery system.
As we enter the Olympiad of London 2012, there is an expectation that we capitalise on the opportunity to grow participation and create a lasting legacy. As a partnership we have a very clear view of what success would look like, in short this is increased participation in sport and active recreation by all parts of the community and a quality infrastructure and workforce to support activity. The impact of this work is that sport will continue to make a significant contribution to positively shaping the communities in which we live.
